A scientific visit to Ibn Al-Qaff Spinal Cord Injury Hospital for the students of the Biomedical Engineering College

To enhance the practical aspect for the students of the  Bio-Medical Engineering College , the college organized A scientific visit to Ibn Al-Qaff Spinal Cord Injury Hospital, under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Biomedical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Sadeq Hussein Bakhy, and the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Ziad Qasim Habib.

The visit was attended by students of the second stage, accompanied by the staff of the anatomy laboratory and the subject teacher, Ph.Dr. Alaa Hussein. The aim was to consolidate applied understanding and link theoretical concepts to practical reality in specialized health institutions.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by the hospital’s director, Dr. Diaa Kazim Jaber, who provided a thorough explanation of the hospital’s organizational structure and mechanisms for providing care for spinal cord injury patients, explaining the importance of integration between advanced medical devices and specialized staff in providing the best treatment services.

The scientific tour included a visit to several vital departments within the hospital, most notably:
– Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Department: The role of physiotherapy in improving the quality of life of patients and enhancing their chances of recovery was discussed.
– Dental Radiology Department: Students learned about the latest equipment used to diagnose cases with high accuracy.
– Sonar and Doppler Department: Students witnessed practical applications on the Doppler machine, which enhanced their understanding of ultrasound-based diagnostic techniques.
– Radiology Department: Students were shown how to adjust the radiation dose according to the patient’s condition and the nature of the examination, while reviewing the types of devices used.
– Clinical Chemistry Unit: The students learned about the role of advanced laboratory equipment in conducting accurate medical analyses.

At the end of the visit, the delegation expressed their sincere thanks and appreciation to the hospital administration and its professional staff for their cooperation and tangible efforts in supporting students, reflecting a bright image of a medical environment that supports science and education. The supervisors emphasized that this visit was a valuable educational platform that contributes to the preparation of medical engineering cadres who possess the skills, knowledge, and applied vision to serve the health sector with efficiency and excellence.
