Under the patronage of the esteemed President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Mohsen Nouri Hamza, and under the direct supervision of the Dean of the Biomedical Engineering College, Prof. Dr. Sadeq Hussein Bakhy, the College of Biomedical Engineering, in cooperation with the Studies and Planning Division,

organized a qualitative workshop entitled:
“Electronic Extortion – Causes and Mechanisms for Combating and Eliminating it”

presented by Lecturer Dalia Muhammad Ali Hassan.

This workshop came within the activities of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, and was held at Al-Quds Hall on April 25, 2025, with a distinguished attendance of college professors and students, reflecting the growing interest in confronting this dangerous phenomenon that threatens the security of the digital community.

The workshop dealt with several topics, most notably
– Defining cyber extortion as a digital crime that exploits victims financially or morally through modern technological means.
– The groups most vulnerable to blackmail, primarily women, children and students, emphasizing the need for awareness and legal protection.
– Prevention and control mechanisms, through spreading digital awareness, early reporting, and activating deterrent laws.

In conclusion
The workshop emphasized that cyber extortion is a real challenge that requires concerted technical, educational and legal efforts, stressing the importance of consolidating moral values and promoting a culture of safe use of technology to build a healthy and safe electronic environment for all.
