A workshop titled: “Intellectual Property and the Challenges it Faces in the Scientific, Cultural, Social and Economic Fields”
Under the patronage of the esteemed President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Mohsen Nouri Hamza, and the direct supervision of the esteemed Dean of the Biomedical Engineering College, Prof. Dr. Sadeq Hussein Bakhy,
The college organized A workshop titled:
“Intellectual Property and the challenges it faces in the scientific, cultural, social, and economic fields”
at Al-Quds Hall.
The workshop was delivered by lecturer Ph.Dr. Ali Fadl Al-Baaiwi, who provided a thorough explanation of the concept of intellectual property, highlighting one of its most important branches, namely “copyright”. He explained that these rights are considered one of the main pillars that countries grant to individuals and institutions to protect their intellectual creations, allowing them to use and invest them within a legal framework and for a specific period, and preventing illegal competition.
The lecturer also reviewed the types of intellectual property rights, which include scientific research, studies, works, patents, trademarks, industrial and commercial secrets and others. He pointed out the great challenges that hinder the protection of these rights, most notably digital violations, the disparity in legal legislations between countries, poor community awareness, as well as the rapid developments in the fields of technology and artificial intelligence.
After the workshop, the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Sadeq Hussein Bakhy, praised the importance of the topic and the depth of the presentation, stressing the need for joint institutional work to develop practical mechanisms that contribute to the protection of intellectual property rights within the academic and institutional environment. They also exchanged views on the recommendations that were presented, and the possibility of adopting them within the college’s future plans to develop legal and cultural awareness of creativity and innovation rights.
