Under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Biomedical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Sadeq Hussein Bakhy, the College of Biomedical Engineering, in cooperation with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit.

organized an awareness workshop entitled:
“The Dangers of Smoking and Its Effects on Individual and Community Health”.
The workshop was presented by the unit’s official, accredited trainer, Ammar Abbas Kazim.
The workshop targeted college students and aimed to raise their awareness of the multiple health, psychological, and social harms resulting from smoking, both for smokers themselves and for people affected by secondhand smoke. The workshop also addressed the increasing risks associated with modern means of smoking, especially electronic cigarettes, emphasizing the need to stay away from them because of their negative effects, which may be both hidden and dangerous.
The workshop also highlighted the recent statistics that illustrate the magnitude of the phenomenon in society, and the relationship between smoking and chronic diseases such as heart and lung diseases and cancers, in addition to its effects on mental health and general behavior.
The workshop emphasized the importance of the awareness-raising role of students within the university community, and the need for them to assume responsibility in spreading the culture of health awareness and striving towards a smoke-free university environment that contributes to promoting public health and encouraging positive behaviors.
At the end of the workshop, the door for discussion was opened, where the attendees showed great interaction through their interventions and inquiries, which gave the session a meaningful interactive character that emphasized the importance of such activities in building sustainable health awareness among university students.
